Carve Cymru 2008 - Chainsaw Carving and Auction

Carve Cymru 2008 - Chainsaw Carving and Auction

The showpiece of the festival - 'Carve Cymru' brings together 23 of the finest chainsaw artists from the UK and overseas in a competition to create fantastic wooden sculptures using mainly chainsaws.

The carvers arrive before the festival starts to choose their wood and commence carving. By Friday the sculptures are starting to take shape and the skills of these artists can be appreciated as their work progresses to a finished piece/pieces ready for auction to the general public on Sunday. The sculptures are finished to a very high standard and can be displayed either internally or externally.

The carvings will be ready for a Pre-Auction viewing on Sunday from 12 Midday onwards. The Auction will commence at 2.30p.m.

Many of the carvers will be bringing their own range of carvings which will be on display and many will be on sale at a range of prices to suit most pockets. Most of the carvers are happy to discuss individual commissions and to discuss their work.

Each morning and afternoon the carvers take time out to perform in a 'speed carve', starting with various sized logs the carvers compete over 20 minutes to create a piece to sell to the public. Lots of noise and drama - Don't miss it!
