Timetable and class descriptions
FRIDAY IS NOVICE DAY
CLASS N1 Starts at 11am Friday 4th June
LEADING REIN
Leading the horse through obstacles, round cones, over logs, to include reversing, turning, stop and wait.
CLASS N2
LONG REINING
The horse guided by long reins through a course of obstacles to demonstrate control using driving skills.
CLASS N3
NOVICE LOG PULL
Pull a single log using chains or arch around a winding course.
Please note novice horses are welcome to compete on Saturday and Sunday in the open classes.
Saturday 5th JUNE
CLASS 1 Starts at 10am
LONG REINING
The horse guided by long reins must walk around a winding course
Manoeuvres will include:
Forward and stop
Reverse and stop
Timed stop
Turn left and right
Stepping over a log
180 degree turn around the handler
Turning on the spot
CLASS 2 Starts at 1pm
SINGLE LOG PULL
Pull a single log around a winding course
Manoeuvres to include:
Hitching on to the log
A timed stop
Unhitching the log and hitching to the other end
Turning a log 180 degrees
CLASS 3 to follow single log pull, time permitting
PAIRS LOG PULL
A pair of horses to pull a log. Similar to single log pull but with more space allowed.
Sunday 6th JUNE
CLASS 4 Starts at 10am
HORSE AND TIMBER HANDLING,
A Working Partnership
A selection of timber must be moved from one side of the arena and stacked at the opposite side of the arena.
Handlers can choose their equipment to suit their harness and the timber to be moved.
This class is to demonstrate the horse and handlers ability to gather and stack timber as they would in the forest.
Entries can be with one or more horse and one or more handler.
Judged on handlers horse and timber handling skills and how they work together as a team.
CLASS 5 Starts at 2pm
THE BENCH
Pull 5 logs onto a bolster one at a time
A single log will be fixed in place and 4 logs must have their front ends lifted onto this static log. The 5th log must be stacked on top!
The idea is to get the ends in a neat line! Get practicing!
Competitors can choose their equipment to suit their horses harness for all classes.
You can borrow the following gear if you don’t bring your own:
Ulvins arch
Ulvins forwarding trailer
Skidding grapple
Please bring your own swingle tree or spreader bar and choker chains
Rules and information.
Each competitor must be responsible for their own horse at all times. Public liability insurance is a requirement.
Safety measures will be in place to protect the public. These must be enforced.
It is the discretion of the handler as to whether or not someone walks by the horses head during the classes as a safety precaution.
Classes 1,2 &3 and novice classes will be judged on accuracy of each manoeuvre, obedience of the horse, and handlers competence and abilities. Class 4 will be judged on ability of horses and handlers to work together and leave timber tidily. In Class 5 log ends will be measured from the first log placed.
The judges decision is final.

Lorries and trailers should be on site by 10am when Woodfest Opens.
Handlers can enter with more than one horse, horses can enter with more than one handler.
Let me know which days you want to come and if you want to stay overnight. You can stay on site with an electric fence. Car parks will be empty overnight and you can move your vehicle to a quiet corner. Please be back to the logging area by 9.30 am.
The Woodfest organisers will pay travelling expenses for one trip each way to and from St Asaph at £1/mile up to a maximum of £100.
